Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is the ability of electrical equipment to operate correctly in its electromagnetic environment without causing or experiencing interference. The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) graduate badge certifies knowledge of the principles necessary to design or redesign electronic products that meet EMC compliance standards.
This badge program is open to students in the engineering graduate program and will equip them with the expertise to ensure their products can be successfully tested for electromagnetic compatibility, an essential aspect of modern electronics design.
When earning this badge, students will learn the principles necessary for designing and redesigning electronic products to meet EMC compliance. This includes understanding the various methods and standards for ensuring electronic devices can operate without causing or being affected by electromagnetic interference. The program covers topics such as:
This badge provides students with specialized knowledge in designing electronic products that meet EMC standards, ensuring compliance and preventing interference. In industries such as electronics and telecommunications, EMC expertise is highly valued. This badge enhances your education and allows you to showcase your skills to employers through digital badges displayed on social media and websites. Completed in under a year, this badge offers a competitive edge and opens doors to advanced career opportunities in product design and engineering.
A digital badge, or badge, is a record of achievement that recognizes a student's completion of a coherent and meaningful academic experience. GVSU offers both credit and non-credit bearing badges as digital credentials. Credit-bearing badges include anywhere from 0.5 to 15 academic credits and may include additional noncredit criteria. Credit-bearing badges are also posted to the academic transcript.

GVSU’s EMC Center is a 6,000squarefoot facility with seven EMC test chambers for radiated/conducted emissions, immunity, and ESD testing. Students in the badge program directly benefit from this environment and gives learners exposure to equipment and testing conditions normally found only in industry or specialized research labs.
Whether you are a first-year student, a transfer student, or a current student thinking about your career options, advising is an important part of your academic journey.
