Welcome to three new professional science master's programs at Grand Valley State University: M.S. in Medical and Bioinformatics, M.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology with an emphasis in Biotechnology, and M.S. in Biostatistics.
A professional science master's (PSM) program is different from a traditional science master's program in that a professional science master's degree program:
- is interdisciplinary, pulling from multiple fields of study
- is directly tied to the scientific workforce needs of business and industry
- has an intensive scientific business/industry internship component
- has strong business, communication, project management, teamwork, and ethics components
- provides students with the scientific knowledge and professional skills needed in today's scientific workplace
Our new programs include:
Medical and Bioinformatics M.S: The utilization of computer technology to manage and analyze information in the life and health sciences. Contact Dr. Paul Leidig, (leidig@gvsu.edu) Director of the M.S. Medical and Bioinformatics program or Dr. David Elrod (elrodd@gvsu.edu), Coordinator of PSM Programs.
Cell and Molecular Biology Biotechnology Emphasis M.S.: The industrial use of living organisms to produce food, drugs, and other products. Contact Dr. Mark Staves, (stavesm@gvsu.edu) Director of the M.S. in Cell & Molecular Biology, Biotechnology Emphasis program or Dr. David Elrod (elrodd@gvsu.edu), Coordinator of PSM Programs.
Biostatistics M.S.: The application of statistical techniques to scientific research in the life and health sciences. Contact Dr. Robert Downer, (downerr@gvsu.edu) Director of the M.S. in Biostatistics program or Dr. David Elrod (elrodd@gvsu.edu), Coordinator of PSM Programs.
