It can be quite overwhelming to begin as a student again. Not only do you have to navigate the campus, classes, and new professors, but you may also have to learn new technology!  Some of the technology that you may find yourself using includes productivity tools (the GVSU standard package is Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); e-mail; the World Wide Web; and Blackboard (the GVSU online course management system.) There will undoubtedly be others and it may depend on your major and the courses you take.

Here are some very important resources for you:

IT student website: http://www.gvsu.edu/it/student/ is a comprehensive website with many resources and answers for the technology at GVSU.

Username/Password:
If you need assistance in finding out your username or resetting your password, please click here. You might also find it helpful to contact the Help Desk. They can take care of this for you.

GVSU Computer Labs
There are open computer labs at each campus. Each campus will also have a CTS support person available during open hours to assist you with basic technology questions (such as finding your username and password, or logging in to Blackboard or e-mail.) Click here to find locations, hours, and other information.

You are assigned a GVSU email address and account that you are free to use. You are not required to use this address, and if you choose another email account, be sure to contact the Records office to inform them of your preferred email. Many faculty members and classmates email through Blackboard, so your email address will need to be accurate.

Blackboard assistance.
Blackboard is an online course management system. Many classes will utilize Blackboard to make information available on the web. Through Blackboard, you might find a copy of a course syllabus, notes from class, and other useful resources. Some courses will require Blackboard use, others will not. There is an online tutorial to help you to get familiar with Blackboard. To find it, go to http://bb.gvsu.edu/ and click on the link entitled “Introduction to Blackboard.” This link will take you into a workshop site so that you can get oriented, and if you’d like to play around with some of the tools, there is a contact address for you to request full access.
