1 - What is your cancellation policy?

Should your plans change, you may transfer your registration to another person at any time.  You may also choose to keep your registration fee in "escrow" to be used toward a different course in the future. Cancellations must be received by the Center for Adult & Continuing Studies at least 48 hours prior to class start time. Cancellations received before the deadline are eligible to receive a full refund. Cancellations received after the deadline and/or no-shows are not eligible for refunds. If you have questions, please call our office at (616) 331-7180 or email [email protected]

2 - When do I need to pay for the course?

Payment is due upon enrollment both when registering online and over the phone.  Participants are not officially registered for the course until payment is received by the Center for Adult & Continuing Studies.

3 - Where do I park?

Parking depends on the location of the training.  Parking permits and instructions on where to park will be provided at least 2 days prior to the event.  See the map and or directions located under our locations information.  If you are registered for a course and have not received your parking information at least 2 days prior to the event, please call our office at (616) 331-7180 or email [email protected]

4 - Is the time of the event the time the event begins or the time registration begins?

The time listed for events usually marks the beginning of the registration and networking period. We encourage participants to arrive around this time (or a few minutes before) so the registration process is not rushed.

5 - Do I need to bring anything with me?

Generally speaking, all you will need to bring is a writing utensil and a pad of paper unless otherwise noted in the training description.

6 - Will I get a certificate of attendance for this course?

Yes. Social Work Continuing Education Credit Certificates will be emailed after the event, typically within 1-2 business days.

7 - What temperature will the room be?

The room temperature is generally cooler than most people are used to. We suggest that you add an extra layer of clothing just in case.

8 - What if I need special accommodations?

Please contact our office for information regarding special needs accommodations. We will work with you to ensure your needs are met. Office – (616) 331-7180 or email [email protected]

9 - Why are classes different prices?

Courses are offered for various prices based on clock hours, grant funding, sponsorships, total expenses, partnerships, and a myriad of other reasons. We try to keep our course prices affordable without sacrificing quality and service.

10 - Why don't most courses provide lunch?

We try to keep our prices affordable and by offering lunch we would be forced to raise our rates. We have decided to leave lunch up to participants so that they can make their own decisions based on their tastes and budgets.

11 - Are classes offered through Grand Valley "approved" for social work continuing education?

Yes. All social work continuing education courses offered through this office are approved by the School of Social Work at Grand Valley State University for social work continuing education clock hours.

12 - Where can I find other approved social work continuing education classes in Michigan?

Visit the website for the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative at https://www.socialworkcec.com/how-to-view-course-listings

13 - Why do you need my social work license number?

The reason we make this request is to place your license number on the certificates as required by the State Board of Social Work.

14 - How do I find my social work license number?

Your social work license number is the number under permanent ID on your wallet-sized copy. It is located in the bottom left corner. It usually begins with a #680. If you cannot find it, we’ll be happy to help you locate it during the event.

15 - How do I know when my license expires?

Your license expires on April 30th, which falls within 3 years after its original issue date. The expiration date should be noted on your license. To look up additional information regarding your license, you may go to the Department of Community Health’s website and provide your name, profession, and/or license number at https://aca-prod.accela.com/MILARA/GeneralProperty/PropertyLookUp.aspx?isLicensee=Y&TabName=APO

16 - Are class materials going to be made available for me to download?

Course materials will be sent to the participants of the event either just before, or immediately following each event (depending on the presenter's request).

17 - I am planning a program or a conference and would like to offer CECH's. Who should I contact?

You should already be working together and planning the event with a Grand Valley School of Social Work faculty member. If so, contact Lucas Treadwell at (616) 331-7180 or [email protected] for information on how to offer CECHs for your participants through a co-sponsorship agreement.

18 - What is your inclement weather policy?

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY:  If Grand Valley State University closes due to the weather, the class will also be cancelled. If we are open, but you feel that the weather conditions make it unsafe to attend, we will give you a refund for this class. To check to see if the University is closed, please go to WZZM or WOOD TV either online or on television to see their school closings and cancellations. You may also call the university directly to see if we are open: (616) 331-2020.

19 - I'm interested in one of your virtual courses, but I'm not familiar with Blackboard or Zoom. Can you help me?

Absolutely!  Our team is more than happy to schedule a time to meet with you via Zoom and walk you through the basic functions, and explain what to expect prior to your event.  If you're taking a self-paced Blackboard course, you will receive instructions upon receiving your login information.  If you have additional questions, please contact our office at (616) 331-7180 or [email protected]

20 - Will I need to wear a mask if I am attending an in-person course?

Per GVSU Policy, Face Coverings are currently required for every participant for the entirety of the program.  If the event is serving food, we will make every effort to offer social distancing during those times.
