Natural Resource Management

"In the era of the Anthropocene, gaining international perspectives on natural resource management strategies is an invaluable component of a holistic education. The Norwegian model for sustainability is realized on all levels, from national policies for sustainable development to household recycling and compost programs. Resources are not just protected for their utility, but truly enjoyed by all, with outdoor recreation being a key part of the national identity. My trip to Norway allowed me to see first-hand that better solutions exist for mitigating global climate change, and energized me to work towards implementation of better practices here in the states. As Aristotle said, "In framing an ideal we may assume what we wish, but should avoid impossibilities." "

-Austin VanDyke, University of Oslo, Norway, Fall 2017
