Spotlights
Isabel Dillon, Australia
During my first week of classes, I quickly realized that the expectations and assignments were vastly different from what I was used to. There were only three major assignments that counted towards my entire grade. Moreover, I found ways to build a routine outside of classes and meet people. This included joining a "social sport" of futsal, volunteering at the local animal shelter (SCARS), and participating in a seven-week program to increase my cultural competency. A few highlights from traveling included scuba diving and taking a scenic flight over the Great Barrier Reef, touring the Sydney Opera House, attending an AFL (Australian Football League) and Rugby game, visiting the Daintree Rainforest, and spending time at the numerous beaches. Although I faced a lot of nerves and anxiety throughout the entirety of my study abroad experience, I still fell in love with the country, atmosphere, and culture.
Isabel studied at the University of the Sunshine Coast in the Sunshine Coast, Australia. She majored in Human Resources Management.
