Studying abroad in Costa Rica was fantastic, I tried a lot of new food like Costa Rican arroz con pollo, granizado, and gallo pinto! The friends I made in my program are my friends for life, the memories that we made together watching a semifinal soccer game, visiting the rainforests of Monteverde, and visiting the Arenal Volcano are all so precious to me. I learned a lot about Costa Rican history and politics while I was over there, I learned about precolonial use of jade and gold by indigenous people and about how Costa Rica gained their independence without a military! I saw so many different animals like sloths, toucans, and coatimundis! I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to get to know my host family and teachers and to experience the spectacular sights and sounds of Costa Rica!
