Candidate Bio
Lukas Hartley is a first-year Honors Student at GVSU hailing from Holt, Michigan, a small town outside of East Lansing. He is majoring in Political Science with a minor in Movement Science. Lukas is a leader both inside and outside the classroom. He is a Campus Votes Project Fellow, a nonpartisan organization that seeks to maximize voter registration and civic engagement on college campuses. This job involves close work with the Office of Student Life and GVSU Votes! Lukas is also a member of the Phi Kappa Tau leadership fraternity Zeta Sigma chapter. He serves as their scholarship chair, and since taking over that position, Phi Kappa Tau has had the highest overall GPA of all fraternities on campus. Lukas also works for Grand Valley State University as a student employee. He works downtown at the Pew Campus as a part-time Groundskeeper for GVSU Facilities and Services. This gives him a unique perspective as he seeks to increase student-employee compensation rates. Lukas also held numerous leadership roles in high school, including National Honors Society President, Debate Captain, and Class Representative to the School Board. Lukas has also served on the Educational Affairs Committee of the Student Senate since being appointed in January. If elected, Lukas hopes to use his position on the Student Senate to draw attention to the issues of student employee compensation, and the practices and pricing Laker Food Co. employs, specifically in the pricing of essential items in POD Stores. Lukas hopes to earn your vote, and thank you for your consideration!
