Outcome A Communication

Effective communication and interpersonal skills, which are adapted to meet the needs of diverse individuals and groups.

2017 Status

One student in the DPT Class of 2017 was rated one step below the expected outcome of entry-level. The remaining 57 students attained the expected level of performance. Consultation with the evaluating clinical instructor indicated that this single student was ready to enter practice, with mentorship and continued focus on development of communication skills in clinical practice.

Outcome B Ethical and Legal Standards

Adherence to safe, ethical and legal standards of current practice (as identified by professional organizations, federal and state law, and accrediting bodies).

49 of 56 students (88%) successfully completed the lab assessment of use of clean/sterile techniques in PT 632 Integumentary Practice Management with a score of 100% on first attempt. Seven students achieved a score of 100% on a second attempt. All students achieved the expected score of 100% after two attempts.

Objective 4 Demonstrate adherence to ethical and legal standards of current practice as identified by professional, state and federal bodies.

Outcome C Diagnosis and Plan of Care

Development of physical therapy diagnoses and an individualized plan of care for the management and prevention of movement dysfunction across the lifespan.

Students in the DPT Class of 2018 demonstrated accuracy scores ranging from 62-100% across the 15 cases. For all cases, student accuracy was within 10% of the referent group of clinicians, except In 5 cases for which student accuracy was 10% (or more) greater than the referent group of clinicians.

Objective 6 Demonstrate effective history taking, examination, evaluation, and reevaluation that leads to an appropriate physical therapy diagnosis and prognosis for patients with disorder of the following systems: Musculoskeletal; Neuromuscular; Cardiovascular and Pulmonary; Integumentary

The performance of two students was rated as one step below entry-level. The 2 students who did not attain the desired outcome were rated at 1-2 steps below the outcome expectation. One of the students had limited opportunity for development of this objective.

Objective 17 Value membership and participation in professional organizations

Of the 58 students in the Class of 2018, 39 (67%) responded to the exit survey. Of these 39 students, 38 (97%) reported membership in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). In November 2018, 3 months post-graduation, APTA membership records indicated that 45 of 58 graduates (78%) were members.

Of the 58 students in the Class of 2017, 38 (65.52%) responded to the exit survey. Of these 38 students, 28 (73.68%) reported membership in the APTA.

39 of 58 students in the DPT Class of 2018 responded to the exit survey. Of the 39 respondents, 35 (90%) reported participation in professional service activities during the DPT program.

2017 Status

Of the 58 students in the DPT Class of 2017, 38 (65.52%) responded to the exit survey. Of the 38 respondents, 33 (87%) reported participation in professional service activities during the DPT program. Multiple service activities were identified in survey comments. Service in the GVSU pro-bono clinics was the predominant service activity.
