Outcome AA Keyboard Musicianship Proficiency

Students will demonstrate basic keyboard musicianship proficiency commensurate with their required level of coursework.

Students will demonstrate basic proficiency on secondary brass, woodwind, string, and percussion instruments.

All student teachers received a grade of B or higher on their final music observations in Winter 2020. Due to the Corona Virus outbreak, some of these students only received 2 observations instead of the standard 3 observations. Data was collected using the observation scores from the last observation for each student prior to the closing of public schools.

Students will demonstrate their skills as successful solo and ensemble performers.
Objective 21 Students will be able to demonstrate proficiency as a performer at the end of their fourth semester of applied lessons.

Students continue to reach this objective. The high success rate is supported by applied music professors preparing students and by the students four semesters of music study that have taken place prior to this assessment. Each semester of applied study, music students are required to perform a 10 minute jury before a faculty of music professors. This is a 20 minute jury, which students prepare for during the course of their fourth semester of applied study.

Objective 47 BME students will be able to perform a recital in fulfillment of their degree requirements during their fourth year of applied music instruction.
Objective 5 Students will be able to perform a recital to be evaluated by a pre-recital hearing committee.

Outcome V Reflective Practitioners

Students will reflect on the role of music in the context of education and on their individual teaching experiences.

All students took part in the discussion board reflections during the Winter 2020 semester. On occasion, a student or two would forget to post for one of the reflection prompts or would post after the due date, but the overall response rate for the semester was 91%

100% of students in EDI 331 and EDI 432 participated in the discussion board posts.

Objective 20 Students will be able to articulate their personal philosophies of music in the context of education.
