Outcome c Re-entry Resources

Students will be connected with appropriate and useful resources/information after returning from term-abroad study programs so that they will successfully integrate that abroad experience into future academic and professional success.
Objective 1 A majority of students participating in the re-entry event will report that they are aware of resources to help them leverage their study abroad experience academically and professionally.

We have been unable to complete anything related to re-entry, as we have not sent students abroad due to COVID-19.

Objective 1 was achieved in 2017. We will resume data collection in winter 2020 to obtain student feedback on their study abroad experiences in fall 2019 via a "Welcome Back" event and survey.

Our re-entry event is working well, and that our focus needs to be on outreach and marketing on getting more students to actually participate in that event. The time (Friday afternoon) is appropriate.

Outcome d Study Abroad Fair

Student attendees and other stakeholders will find the annual Study Abroad Fair to be a worthwhile event for learning about education abroad opportunities for GVSU students.
Objective 2 A majority of student participants in the Study Abroad Fair will report that the event was either "Very Good" or "Excellent" in providing them with information on the study abroad opportunities available to them.

This assessment focuses on our Fall 2021 hybrid fair model, specifically to gather the input of attendees on: event venue, promotion, timing and organization. The assessment tool used to collect information was an online survey, consisting of 8-12 questions, as well as open ended fields for comment. This survey was sent to the student attendees with a 58% response rate.

Objective 2 was achieved in 2017. We will resume annual evaluations in 2020 of the attendees' perceptions with regards to the information provided at the Padnos International Center's Study Abroad Fair.

Outcome i 30-day check-ins for new International Students

International students new to GVSU will be connected with appropriate campus resources through the 30-day check-in interviews with PIC staff.
Objective 3 A majority of new international students will report in their 30-day interview sessions that they are aware of support resources available to help them succeed both academically and personally.

The 30 day assessments continue to provide a good insight into the international student experience as they adjust to GVSU. Students are asked about services available on campus and are encouraged to seek out services, assistance, and opportunities for integration.

The initial orientation provides students with information on a range of on-campus support services available to them.

The current orientation sessions provide students with the information they need to access university support services.

No need to re-vamp orientation, as it pertains to describing resources available.

Outcome j Study Abroad Website – Usability Testing

Students will be able to navigate the website to efficiently access necessary information on available programs.
Objective 4 A majority of student users will be able to successfully navigate the study abroad website to find academically-appropriate program options.

2019 Status

The Padnos International Center implemented a new online study abroad application system, OASIS, in winter 2019. The design of the new system took into account feedback from students, faculty, and staff. Feedback on the new system has been positive so far, but primarily anecdotal. We will develop a survey tool in 2020 to assess student perceptions of the OASIS system.
