Outcome SEC-A Content Knowledge

Secondary majors have specialized content knowledge for teaching secondary mathematics.
Objective 1 Secondary majors will have high pass rates on the state-required Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC).

In 2019-2020, we had 12/12 students successfully pass, with subarea scores (1) 2.9 (2) 3.6 (3) 3.2 (4) 3.8. In 2020-2021 we had 1/1 student successfully pass, with subarea scores (1) 3 (2) 4 (3) 3 (4) 4.

95% (19/20) of GVSU students who attempted the secondary mathematics subject area test in 2018-19 passed it within the time frame set by the state of Michigan.

Results improved slightly across the board, with gains ranging from 1 to 8 percentage points. This cohort met our Target in 3 of the 4 sub-score areas.

Objective 2 Secondary majors will demonstrate the ability to use correct axiomatic reasoning in proofs involving principles of Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometries.

5 out of the 9 (56%) secondary education majors enrolled in MTH 331 in F18 were evaluated at or above (2) proficient on indicator 3.8 of the MTH 331 rubric.

Secondary majors have strong pedagogical knowledge for teaching secondary mathematics.
Objective 1 Secondary majors will facilitate lessons in which students are engaged in productive mathematical discussions.
