Outcome K Critical Thinking about Diversity (BA-Elementary)

As they prepare to teach the Language Arts, students with an English major and Elementary Education emphasis will think critically about the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse students.
Objective 1 Students will be able to use, explain, and apply the knowledge that diverse literature may 
impact of physical, perceptual, emotional, social, cultural, environmental, and intellectual factors on learning, language development and reading acquisition.

Students have continued to perform at levels very similar to the data reported in 2018. However, changes to our curriculum (as a result of the development of the PCKET major) going forward will mean that assessment in these areas should shift to assessment within PCKET

Objective 2 Students will understand and develop a literacy/literary curriculum and engage in instructional practices that positively impact students' knowledge, beliefs, and engagement with the features of diversity

Objective 3 Students will use, explain, and apply the knowledge that the social, cultural, and dynamic nature of literature, particularly the reciprocal relationship between language, culture, and individual identity, and how language choices advance and constrain people; and perceive the impact of physical, perceptual, emotional, social, cultural, environmental, and intellectual factors on learning, language development and reading acquisition.

Outcome L Thinking about effective teaching (BA-Elementary)

As they prepare to teach the Language Arts, students with an English major and Elementary Education emphasis will develop the critical ability to judge teaching for its effectiveness.
Objective 1 Students will be able to assess student learning formatively throughout the unit and summatively at the end of the unit.
Objective 2 Students will be able to use assessment data to evaluate students’ responses to instruction and to develop relevant next steps for teaching
