Outcome A Preparedness for Academic Success

Through attendance in orientation programming, first year students will be prepared to succeed at GVSU.
Objective 1 80% of participants in Transitions will indicate a feeling of preparedness for the academic rigors of GVSU.

Approx. 3000 students participated in Transitions in 2021 with 829 responding to the Transitions Survey. 80% indicated "a feeling of preparedness for the academic rigors of GVSU" as a result.

2019 Status
Achieved
1,219 students responded to Transitions survey in 2019. 89.14% indicated "a feeling of preparedness for the academic rigors of GVSU" as a result.

2017 Status

a. “Students will indicate their level of a feeling of preparedness for the college academic experience after participating in the Transitions academic modules.” "Participating in the Transitions program has made me feel more prepared to begin my college experience." 2017 – 1623 surveyed, 85% 1151 agree or strongly agree, 12.44% 169 disagree, 2.8% 38 strongly disagree

Overall, students who participate indicate that Transitions (1) “Made (me) feel more prepared to begin (my) experience” and (2) “Taught (me) about the resources and services available to me as a new student.” (See data and analysis in "Findings Since Last Reporting" document.

Threshold and Target met and exceeded per 2017 Transitions Survey data: “Transitions participants will indicate a familiarity with campus resources and will utilize those resources during their first year at GVSU.” Transitions has taught me about the resources and services available to me as a new student. 2017 – 1623 surveyed, 95% 1291 agree or strongly agree, 4.05% 55 disagree, .88% 12 strongly disagree

This data demonstrates a significant correlation between participation in a registered student organization (RSO) and student confidence in leadership ability. It also demonstrates a significant correlation, for those students who are involved in RSOs, between their confidence in leadership capacity and OSL support.
