Outcome LS-1 Mastery of Substantive Knowledge (Legal Studies)

Students will demonstrate mastery of substantive knowledge critical to the legal professions. This includes theory, legal system and alternatives, legal education, and ethics.
Objective 11 Knowledge of ethical issues in legal professions. Students will identify and analyze ethical issues in the legal profession.

Outcome LS-2 Critical Thinking Skills (Legal Studies)

Students will demonstrate the use of appropriate critical thinking skills. This includes the ability to use the appropriate level of critical thinking--comparison, assessment, evaluation, etc.--related to selected topics as specified in objectives.
Objective 14 Identify and analyze legal issues. Students can identify and analyze legal issues in a fact situation.

Outcome LS-3 Mastery of Basic Legal Research Skills (Legal Studies & Paralegal Studies Certificate)

Students will demonstrate mastery of basic legal research skills; including the ability to identify sources of law, assess the weight of authority, find and validate relevant legal sources, and use campus legal research software.
Objective 17 CALR Students demonstrate the ability to use electronic legal databases to conduct legal research.

All students successfully met this SLO. Even though 100% of students met the learning objective, the importance of computer assisted legal research in the legal profession requires that we keep up with assessing our students' ability in this area. The LS committee will review the measure used to determine if we could learn more from a different measurement tool.

Outcome LS-4 Mastery of Basic Legal Writing Skills (Legal Studies & Paralegal Studies Certificate)

Students will demonstrate mastery of basic legal writing skills, including the ability to draft common legal documents using proper citation format.
Objective 18 Case Briefing. Students can accurately state the holding of a case in a case brief prepared using the correct format.

Outcome LS-5 Oral Communication (Legal Studies)

Students will communicate observations, analyses, and arguments orally in a manner consistent with professional standards. Students will demonstrate the ability to communicate professionally through diverse means to diverse audiences.
Objective 10 Professional Oral Communication. Students will communicate observations, analyses, and arguments in a manner consistent with professional standards.
