Grand Rapids Medical Education Partners (GRMEP)
The Statistics Department at Grand Valley State University has had an ongoing relationship with the Grand Rapids Medical Education Partners (GRMEP). GRMEP is a partnership between Spectrum Health, Saint Mary’s Health Care, Michigan State University, and Grand Valley State University. In 1998, the consortium (MERC) was renamed to GRMERC; and in 2010 the consortium was once again reorganized and the name changed to GRMEP.
Taken from its website (http://www.grmerc.net/), the mission of GRMEP is “To enhance the quality of health care in our community by sponsoring and supporting programs and developing resources to meet the regions’ current and future needs for physician and health professions education.”
The relationship with GRMEP started in 1996 when Dr. George Sturm created a partnership with MERC. Dr. Sturm left GVSU, and Dr. Justine Ritchie took on the position in 1998. In May 2000, Dr. Ritchie left GVSU for another position, and Dr. Diann Reischman replaced her in this position.
Dr. Reischman''s role at GRMEP involves providing statistical support for research in medical and health care research in the community. She works with physicians, nurses, and residents in the community, as well as health care students at GVSU and medical students at MSU. Involvement in the projects varies and includes helping with study design, sample size calculations, writing research protocols, analyzing collected data, and writing results for posters and papers. Her position at GRMEP has also resulted in her involvement in GRMEP’s Annual Community Research Day as a judge and scorekeeper. Her work on projects at GRMEP has resulted in being acknowledged by name and institution or being named as co-author, on presentations and published papers.
