Bio
Ta'les Love, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Brooks School of Interdisciplinary Studies at GVSU. Her research interests are situated at the intersections of race and culture, digital media studies, and television studies. Dr. Love's work commonly explores how African Americans use new media technologies for self-expression, entrepreneurship, community uplift, and narrative reconstruction. Dr. Love's work is also informed by her prior experience as a television journalist where she produced newscasts in a top 100 television market. Currently, Professor Love is working on her first book project which examines how Black women have reshaped the beauty industry through social media influencing. Her research has appeared in reputable scholarly venues that include Social Media + Society, Cultural Studies, and Communication, Culture, and Critique. When Dr. Love is not researching, she enjoys delving into the worlds of hip-hop and Black popular culture where she works as a micro-influencer. Dr. Love also enjoys film, dancing, and spending time with her family and friends!
