Hector holds a PhD in History, an MA in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from Florida International University, and a Master of Laws and Juris Doctor from Universidad ICESI in Colombia. His research and teaching interests include Latin American Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Legal History, Discourse Analysis, and the construction of subaltern identities and subjectivities. He has experience as a coordinator of Icesi's legal clinic, where he led social intervention projects for people with disabilities and older people. In Colombia, he taught classes on Constitutional Law and Ethics. At FIU, he taught courses on modern American History.
