Dr. Jakia Marie is assistant professor of Integrative Studies and program coordinator of African & African American Studies. She joined the GVSU faculty in Fall 2022. She is a GV alum, earning bachelor's degree in liberal studies with an emphasis in religion and nonprofit leadership and a Master of Education in college student affairs leadership from GVSU. She earned an M.A. in Anthropology, and a Ph.D., in Pan-African Studies from the University of Louisville and has taught at the University of Tennessee and Bellarmine University.
