The Grand Valley State University Science, Technology, and Engineering Preview Summer (STEPS) Camp is now accepting applications for 2023!

STEPS Camp is a fun and engaging week-long introduction to the world of science, technology, and engineering through the lens of aviation for participants between the ages of 11-13, currently in the 6th grade, and entering 7th grade in the fall of 2023.

The summer 2023 camp will be held on the downtown campus of Grand Valley State University. The experience will be filled with educational classes, field trips, hands-on activities, and the building of a model airplane glider.

Science Technology & Engineering Preview Summer (STEPS) Camp is a day-camp preview of science, engineering and technology for rising 7th grade students.  The theme of airplane flight is utilized to integrate technical classes and recreational activities, all the while encouraging social development and personal growth.  The students, in teams of roughly twelve, each manufacture and assemble a radio controlled airplane with the assistance of teachers, counselors, and volunteers.  By the end of the week, the students fly their airplanes at a sanctioned fly field, with the help of certified pilots.  Throughout the week, they learn theory of flight, utilize manufacturing equipment and tools, and ultimately learn a lot more about their own personal capabilities and potential.
