David Daniels was a highly esteemed member of the Grand Valley State University Physical Therapy Class of 1986. On the morning of graduation on August 23, 1986, while David was participating in the Muskegon Triathlon he tragically drowned.

David is remembered as an individual who demonstrated a balanced life, placing appropriate emphasis with regards to academics, athletics, personal/family relationships, personal and professional development, and spirituality. He was outgoing, but not overbearing. He could be intensely serious, but always brought a perspective and humor that was refreshing and calming. David was self-assured, but not arrogant. As an athlete, he was extremely competitive, but humble in his victories and a true sportsman in his defeats. David’s words and actions were consistent, so his peers looked to him as a model of true integrity.

Ruth M. Perry Doctor of Physical Therapy Major Scholarship

Mr. Ross W. Perry, an executive for companies that produced pre-paint, steel coatings, and his wife, Ruth M. Perry, a California elementary speech therapy teacher, created, in 1994, a _Charitable Remainder Unitrust _which paid them annual income over their lifetimes. Mr. Perry died in 1999 and the trust income continued to be paid to Mrs. Perry. Rather than continuing to receive income payments from the Unitrust, Mrs. Perry released her income interest in the trust thus freeing the trust corpus to Grand Valley State University for the creation and funding of a scholarship. The scholarship specified in the trust was to benefit students seeking a Bachelor of Science degree from GVSU. During her years of enduring cancer, Mrs. Perry was given significant relief from Physical Therapists trained at Grand Valley. Consistent with the interests of both Ross and Ruth Perry, two scholarships will make awards equally in two areas: core sciences and physical therapy.
