Research Interests

My research interest is in the long-term neurobiological and behavioral changes associated with withdrawal from alcohol, and how these changes may lead to relapse. The long-term goal is to provide essential information regarding these biological systems to aid in the development of pharmacotherapies in the management of alcohol-related stress and potentially other stress-related disorders. My current research examines how gut-brain peptides may regulate stress-related behaviors following long-term periods of abstinence from alcohol in animal models of anxiety and depression.

Current Research

My current research seeks to examine the role of gut-brain peptides in the long-term behavioral changes associated with withdrawal from alcohol, and how these changes may lead to relapse. More specifically, my laboratory investigates how ghrelin receptors may regulate stress-related behaviors following long-term periods of abstinence from alcohol in animal models of anxiety and depression.
