Social Cognition Lab at GVSU

Welcome to the Social Cognition Lab at GVSU. Michael Wolfe and Todd Williams are the co-directors. We have two main lines of research:

Belief change and awareness of belief change: What happens when people read information that is inconsistent with their beliefs? We study the circumstances under which people may or may not change beliefs in response to information. We also study the extent to which people are aware of these changes when they do take place, and the potential consequences of being aware or not aware of belief changes.

Machiavellianism: Machiavellianism is a personality trait that refers to the extent to which people see social relationships as things that can be used to further one's own goals. We have studied the relationship between Machiavellianism and memory when people either tell the truth or lie. We are currently investigating other aspects of Machiavellianism.
