The first year coursework is designed to provide students with foundational information necessary for the profession. In addition, some first year courses are linked to a practicum experience in which students spend the entire academic year in a classroom with a local teacher (approximately one full day a week). This allows students to learn more about a teacher's experience and also practice some beginning skills such as completing classroom observations, conducting parent and teacher interviews, and administering and scoring standardized tests.

The second year coursework is designed for students to expand their knowledge and skillset. In addition, multiple courses are linked to a practicum experience in which students spend the entire academic year in a school setting with a local school psychologist (approximately two full days a week). This allows students to observe a local practitioner and build independence over the year with assessment, consultation, and intervention.

PSY 685: School Psychology Internship, 3cr

PSY 685: School Psychology Internship, 3cr

 

The third year internship is designed for students to solidify their training and gain further independence as they work towards becoming school psychologists. Interns complete a full-year, full-time internship in a school setting under the supervision of a school psychologist. Interns connect with each other and the university internship coordinator via monthly seminars.
