Open Access Publishing Information 2026
The Libraries have agreements that cover publishing costs for any fully open access journal from Wiley or Cambridge University Press. We also have an agreement with Oxford University Press to cover fees for optional open access in OUP subscription journals.
The following titles are covered by our agreements, based on the journals’ and publishers’ data. These may be missing relevant titles in other subject categories – e.g., Cambridge’s list of journals has Psychological Medicine under medicine instead of psychology, but the Spanish Journal of Psychology appears in both. An individual researcher likely knows which other subject categories to check.
Wiley
Wiley’s “journal finder” allows sorting by subject area and access model. A search for fully open access journals in Psychology turns up the following 14 results:
- AI & Innovation

- Brain-X
- Depression and Anxiety
- Diversity & Inclusion Research
- Environmental Psychology Research
- Genes, Brain and Behavior
- Human Behavior and Emerging Technologies
- Human Brain Mapping
- JCPP Advances
- Mental Health Science
- MultiPsych

- PsyCh Journal
Cambridge University Press
Cambridge University Press’s website also allows sorting by subject area and access model. A search for fully open access journals in Psychology turns up the following results:
- Applied Psycholinguistics

- Behavioural Public Policy
- Bilingualism: Language and Cognition
- the Cognitive Behaviour Therapist
- Development and Psychopathology
- Evolutionary Human Sciences

Oxford University Press
OUP’s read and publish agreement follows a different model, and only applies to subscription journals which offer optional open access. Fortunately that is most of the OUP journals in the subject area of psychology:
- Annals of Behavioral Medicine
- Child Development
- Archives of Clinical Neuropsychology
- The Journals of Gerontology: Series B
- Monographs of the Society for Research in Child Development
- Child Policy Nexus
- Journal of Music Therapy
- Journal of Pediatric Psychology
- Work, Aging and Retirement
- Child Development Perspectives
- OUP journals not included in our read-and-publish agreement:
- Antibody Therapeutics
- Neuroscience of Consciousness
- Psychoradiology
Outside of these publications the Directory of Open Access Journals search function allows filtering to identify journals with no author fees at all; a quick search for the subject “Psychology” turns up over 1,000 journals which charge no fees. (Many journals with this model, sometimes called “diamond” or “platinum” open access, are sponsored/supported by scholarly societies, libraries, or other institutions.)
Last note is that GVSU funding is still available for open access publishing costs – the only thing that has ended is the University Libraries and Art Museum’s specific grant program. Authors with work accepted in OA journals, or who are considering journals that charge OA publishing fees, can contact the Faculty Research and Innovation Center and ask about support through their Special Projects Fund.
A lot of information, so if you have any further questions feel free to ask. Ashley Rosener is one of our librarians who is working heavily with open access resources and faculty are always welcome to reach out to her at [email protected].
