Research Interests
My interest in neuroscience is carried by a passion for understanding the biological underpinnings of stress-sensitive psychiatric disorders with the goal of developing tools to better diagnose or treat these complex neurological disorders. As PI of an undergraduate research laboratory, I prioritize individualized mentorship and robust experimental design as well as fostering relationships with other researchers within and beyond our institution. I currently have two streams of research. In collaboration with Dr. Hagenauer at U of M and the Brain Data Alchemy project, my students and I conduct meta-analyses of publicly available data exploring the impact of chronic stress on gene-expression across various tissues. In collaboration with Dr. Risbrough at UCSD, my students and I are analyzing de-identified immune system markers from humans seeking treatment for PTSD at the VA to better understand the relationship between mood and inflammation.
