PCE Outreach Builds Sundials and Astrolabes at the Tenth Annual Roger That! Conference

The PCE Outreach team participated in the Tenth Annual Roger That! Conference on Friday, February 20 and Saturday, February 21.
On Friday, PCE Outreach hosted an astrolabe workshop for elementary and middle school students. We used a portable projector to measure star angles and demonstrate how star positions shift seasonally. Workshop participants were able to see where stars appear at specific times of year, such as their birthday!
On Saturday, PCE Outreach hosted a sundial activity where conference attendees built a paper sundial and learned how these instruments were used to measure time.
The PCE Outreach team also attended the Saturday keynote talk with Dr. Jeanette J. Epps, an aerospace engineer, former CIA intelligence officer, and retired NASA astronaut. The talk was standing room only, and the PCE Outreach team were starstruck and inspired by Dr. Epps’ incredible work in STEM!
