Abstract
This project transforms an ordinary candy bowl into an eye-catching engineering attraction that surprises visitors when they interact with it. As a person reaches toward the bowl, the display responds with light, sound, and electric-field-based effects, creating a dynamic human interaction. Rather than using a simple off-the-shelf proximity sensor, the system uses analog capacitive sensing, where the user’s hand changes the electric field around surrounding antennas and alters the behavior of the circuit.
Electrical engineering design is the centerpiece of the exhibit. Invisible concepts such as capacitance, oscillation, magnetic fields, and high-voltage phenomena are converted into visible and audible responses. LEDs may pulse, sounds may shift, and the effects may become stronger as the user gets closer, making the interaction feel dynamic and alive.
Mechanical design supports the experience by providing a durable, safe, and visually polished tabletop enclosure for repeated public use. Conductive elements, protective barriers, lighting, and structure are integrated into a complete display.
The result is a memorable “WOW factor” showpiece that makes engineering exciting, hands-on, and approachable while encouraging curiosity about electrical and mechanical design.
