T&T Tools Inc. currently sells a simple manhole hook that is used to remove heavy manhole covers into and out of their respective manhole openings. The current hook is a simple traditional style hook which is not ergonomic and provides no mechanical advantage. This traditional style hook is used across the country and needs an update. A new design consists of a main lever arm with wheels. It was chosen to improve upon these drawbacks. The goal of this project is to produce a portable, convenient, cost-effective, and injury-limiting device to ease manhole cover removal. This manhole cover device needs to be easily fabricated by the sponsor and it will incorporate a mechanical advantage to aid workers in manhole cover removal. At the end of the project, a finished prototype along with design details will be submitted to T&T Tools Inc. for production.
