In Memory of Former Head of Occupational Safety and Health, Dr. Eric Van Fleet

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of the former head of the Occupational Safety and Health Department, Dr. Eric Van Fleet. Eric built the GVSU OSHM program into one of the top occupational safety and health programs in the country. Eric was a friend and mentor to those of us carrying on his legacy at GVSU. Dr. Vanfleet’s dedication to the OSH program not only spanned his many years on the faculty, but even into retirement. He most recently stepped up to assist the OSH faculty in response to the Covid crisis. His loss will be felt by all who knew this fine gentleman, including faculty, staff, and generations of OSH alumni. Eric loved to teach and had a unique style. Many of you probably have your own special memories of Eric as an instructor and advisor. He loved seeing how students excelled in the profession after graduation. Our thoughts are with his wife Marie at this time.

There will not be a service, but if you would like to honor Dr. Van Fleet, you can donate to the scholarship in his name.
