Biography
Demetria Thomas earned her Bachelor's degree from Grand Valley State University, and her MFA from the University of Houston. Chicago credits include Tawanda in Live Bait's Love Child, Cass in Stage Left's Burying the Bones, and Erica in MPAACT's The Divine Order of Becoming for which she received a Joseph Jefferson Citation. Regional credits include Eunice in A Streetcar Named Desire at American Players Theatre, Doubt at New Stage Theater, Josie in Moon for the Misbegotten at Writer’s Theatre, and Mistress Ford in Merry Wives of Windsor at Illinois Shakespeare Festival, Mistress Page in Merry Wives of Windsor at Michigan Shakespeare Festival, Beatrice in Much Ado about Nothing and Gertrude in Hamlet both at Houston Shakespeare Festival. Television credits include guest appearances on Chicago Fire (NBC Universal) and as a series regular on APB (Fox TV). Directing credits include Our Lady of 121st Street at the University of Houston, and Figaro at Hope Summer Rep, a 2021-2022 Wilde Award winner. In 2018, Demetria and her husband started The Bower, a correspondence writer’s group. Demetria is also a licensed real estate agent, a certified election judge in her precinct, and worked regularly as a substitute teacher. Demetria’s hobbies include crocheting, spinning fiber, the marching-pagentry arts, and baking cookies for her beagles Wendy Darling and Franklin Pan.
