Biography
Jayma Tagliavia is a 2020 graduate from GVSU, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and a Bachelor of Arts in Dance. During her time in school, Jayma chose a specialized learning track in dance medicine. She was awarded the Doug and Linda Woods Athletic Training Scholarship in 2019, and she took this opportunity to study for a semester at the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries in New York City. While there, she provided preventative and rehabilitative manual services to professional dance companies (Dance Theatre of Harlem, Complexions) and schools (SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance, Hunter College). She also performed dance-specific pre-participation examinations for Ballet Hispanico, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and the SUNY Purchase CoD. Lastly, she assisted in dance injury prevention and nutrition lectures at both university and professional settings. Currently, Jayma works as an Athletic Trainer for the Hope College Dance Department, where she works in conjunction with physicians, professors, and students to prevent, evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate injuries. Additionally, she has taught at Lake Michigan Dance Academy for the past 10 years, specializing in creative movement for children and introductory hip hop classes.
