Biography
Rebecca Salo is an active horn performer and teacher. She currently holds the position of Principal Horn with the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, and she regularly performs with a variety of chamber ensembles. Previously, Rebecca has held positions as Principal Horn in the Paducah Symphony Orchestra, Second Horn in the Paducah Symphony Orchestra, and Principal Horn in the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra; and she has performed with other orchestras including the Lexington Philharmonic and the Orchestra Kentucky Bowling Green. As a soloist, Rebecca has appeared with the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, Purdue Wind Ensemble, and Kokomo Park Band, and she has performed numerous recitals throughout the Midwest. As a teacher, Rebecca is passionate about working with students of all ages. She maintains an active private studio in addition to her teaching at Grand Valley, and she regularly organizes performance opportunities for her students. During the summers, she teaches on faculty at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. Previously, Rebecca was the Consortium Instructor of Horn at the University of Evansville. Additionally, she founded and directed the Evansville Homeschool Band, a beginning band program for homeschooled students. Rebecca completed her Master of Music degree in Horn Performance at Indiana University, under the guidance of Jeff Nelsen with additional coaching from Dale Clevenger in orchestral repertoire and Rick Seraphinoff in historical performance. She has also pursued doctoral studies at the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with Peter Kurau. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, and prior to her undergraduate studies, she spent a year studying abroad at the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, Poland, with Kazimierz Machala.
