Due to the Staying in Place order, the University Libraries is open for individual study only. No gatherings or group activities are allowed. Strict adherence to preventive measures is required, including the wearing of face coverings in the library at all times.
GVSU’s Steelcase Library, located on the Pew Campus in downtown Grand Rapids, is equal parts traditional library and technologically-advanced learning environment.
The beautiful reading room features a cathedral ceiling, quiet study areas, stained glass windows, and a current reference and periodical collection with emphasis in the subjects of business, education, law, Social Work, Public & Nonprofit Administration, engineering, and criminal justice.
Collaborative Work Space
Designed with collaborative learning in mind, the Steelcase Library offers workspaces for individuals and small teams, complete with movable furniture, white board walls, and semi-private work rooms during the day. At night, the space hosts the Knowledge Market, where students can get help with projects from highly-trained peers.

Automated Storage & Retrieval System
Steelcase Library's collection covers Business, Law, Social Work, Public & Nonprofit Administration, Engineering, Education, and Criminal Justice. The entire circulating collection is housed in an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS). Browsing the collection is done using our online catalog, and books are retrieved automatically when requested, and are available for pickup at the Steelcase service desk.
Dorothy A. Johnson Collection for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership Collection
The Johnson Collection comprises one of the most comprehensive collections on philanthropy, volunteerism, and nonprofit leadership initiative in the nation. It is Michigan's only comprehensive library on the subjects of philanthropy and volunteerism. The collection supports the mission of the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership, scholarly research by students and faculty in the School of Public & Nonprofit Administration and other academic departments, the University's Development Division, and members of Michigan's nonprofit community.
Steelcase Library is in Building A of the DeVos Center (#3 on the campus map) and is adjacent to the carillon (bell/clock) tower. Parking for the Library is available in the Seward Lot between Winter and Seward Streets, with access from Fulton Street. Additional parking is available in the Watson Lot behind Secchia Hall.
