During the past year, how did the committee work positively impact your advising skills?

The work our committee completed this past has had a positive impact on transfer advising across campus. The updated survey will allow us to collect more applicable data that will better inform our work that we do with transfer students. It is important that are practices are fluid in that our student population/generation is always evolving. To stay static in what we do would cause a disconnect that could negatively impact the success of our students.

We were very fortunate to have Admissions invite us in to assist in the development of the new Transfer Registration Form in Slate. In the past front-line advisors have not had a voice in the develpment of such documents so having this opportunity was exciting. Our committee was able to create a template and work with Admissions to ensure that our advising centers would have the information needed to properly prepare academic plans prior to students arriving for orientation. Although, the form is not a perfect fit, we were assured that as we learn more about Slate our committee will be consulted/involved in future versions.

What accomplishments did your committee achieve during this past academic year? Projects and initiatives worked on?

1. Created a new TSOR Survey for use in Slate.

2. Assisted Admissions with updating the TSOR Registration page and form in Slate

3. Assisted Admissions with updating the TSOR email communications

4. Held the 2nd annual Transfer Welcome session in January 2023

5. Created a TSOR electronic checkout template (similary to FYAR) in CMS 4

What work will you carry over that was unfinished to the next academic year?

1. Seek approval for TSOR electronic check-out

2. Finalize TSOR common documents for check-in and check-out

3. Collaboration with Admissions to create new Transfer Guides

4. 3rd Annual Transfer Welcome

What benefits would advisors gain by joining your committee for F23/W24?

We are a committee that encourages active participation in further defining a great experience for our transfer students. If you enjoy working with transfer students and would like to share your ideas we encourage you to join us. We are limiting our members to one per college so we can ensure equal representation across the University. We do allow graduate assistants to participate as well.
