West Michigan Academic Practice Nursing Collaborate

The West Michigan Academic Practice Nursing Collaborative (WMAPNC) brings together nursing professionals from a variety of hospital systems and schools of nursing, gathering to envision the future of health care and education, with a focus on the emerging needs in the nursing workforce. The goal of the Collaborative is to promote partnerships to support the development of state-of-the-art curricula and learning experiences to better prepare students to be practice-ready nurses.

Why We Meet

The objectives of the WMAPNC are:

  1. Discuss the latest changes in the healthcare system and their impact on nursing practice.
  2. Identify critical gaps in current nursing curricula and practice experiences.
  3. Explore strategies for integrating new knowledge, skills, and competencies into nursing education.
  4. Provide a collaborative platform for nursing practice leaders and faculty to share insights and best practices.
  5. Equip educators to prepare competent new graduates who will be future nursing leaders who can navigate and transform the evolving healthcare environment.

What We Do

Participation in the Collaborate consists of two key commitments: quarterly meetings and ongoing workgroups.

  • Quarterly Meetings: The Collaborate meets quarterly for a half-day meeting which includes a time of new-learning and conversation with a guest speaker or speakers, followed by a reporting and collaboration between the Collaborate's ongoing working groups.
  • Workgroups: In addition to the meetings, Collaborate participants will also meet at a separate time in their self-selected workgroup. These groups will focus on key topics impacting the nursing profession and education, with an aim towards developing strategies and tactics to bring back to the broader group. These groups are ongoing, and new attendees are welcomed and encouraged to join the workgroup that is of most interest or relevance to their work. A list of the workgroups can be found in the adjacent chart and new attendees can request to join groups during the meeting registration process.
