Internet Connectivity

Internet connectivity to/from GVSU campus services.

Internet Connectivity experienced an issue.

Information Technology department is investigating connectivity issues to internet.

Students are reporting slowness and drops when accessing internet sites.

Network engineers are working with GVSU's internet provider to determine the cause of this service issue.

This issue is happening to GV-STUDENT, GV-GAMENET and GV-VISITOR Wi-Fi networks.


*** Friday 8/29/2025 ***

2:30pm: Student networks continue to have normal traffic speeds throughout today. Traffic volume did surpass week peak numbers today. We will shift status back to operational. Network engineers will continue to monitor traffic over weekend and second week of semester.

11:45AM - Network speeds have greatly improved at peak traffic volume. Network Engineers will continue to monitor.

9:50AM - We are seeing improved network speeds on student networks. Though we are seeing lighter traffic this morning compared to Monday thru Thursday. Network Engineers will continue to monitor and will provide another update at noon.

2:00AM - Evening maintenance completed successfully. Until more users utilize internet services, unknown if issue resolved. Network Engineers have additional plan of action if issue continues. Will provide another update by 10:00AM.


*** Thursday 8/28/2025 ***

2:00PM -  As a next step in resolving this issue, we will be performing critical network maintenance on Friday, August 29, from 12:00 AM to 2:00 AM. During this window, internet connectivity across campus will be fully unavailable, impacting service to all internet-based services, including authentication via single sign-on, and www.gvsu.edu.

12:00PM - Earlier notification mentioned Wi-Fi only, this issue is affecting network ports in housing dorms as well.  Wi-Fi networks GV-STUDENT, GV-GAMENET, GV-VISITOR and wired ports in housing dorms can experience network slowness. Network engineers are still investigating and will be working on changes for this evening to improve network speed.

8:15AM - Network Engineers worked late last evening making changes to help isolate the cause of the ongoing network issue. The root cause has not yet been resolved.  At this time, connectivity may still be unstable, and disruptions are expected to increase as more student devices come online throughout the day.  Network Engineers continue to investigate.

*** UPDATE Wednesday 8/27 5:30pm ***

We continue to experience degraded performance, resulting in limited internet access for many student devices.

Actively working with internet provider on resolution to issue identified.
