Transfer Out Date Considerations

Are you currently authorized for OPT/STEM, or will you be authorized on/before your requested Transfer Out date? *

You can choose to transfer your record out during the 60-day grace period after OPT ends.

Please note that F-1 students traveling while between schools should ensure that their travel is:

Started and completed before GVSU transfers their SEVIS record to their new school (student travels with GVSU I-20)

Started and completed after GVSU transfers the record and the new school issues the new I-20 (student travels with new school's I-20)

Do you plan to renew your F-1 visa while you are outside the USA? *

If your F-1 visa stamp expires while you are outside the USA, please plan ahead to apply for a new visa stamp. You will need a valid visa stamp in order to re-enter the USA (unless a citizen of Canada who only needs an updated I-20).

Transfer Out Date

Please indicate the day on which you would like us to transfer your SEVIS record to the new school. You should choose a day after our semester ends but before theirs begins, unless the school has told you which day to select. *

Since you are currently authorized for OPT/STEM, please confirm the Transfer Out date you have chosen. Keep in mind, if the date is during your OPT/STEM authorization, your OPT/STEM authorization will automatically end the day the record is transferred. *

*As a reminder, you can select a transfer date up to 60 days after your OPT/STEM authorization ends so that the transfer doesn't interrupt your work authorization.
