SEVIS Transfer In

F-1 students submit this form if they are transferring into GVSU from another school. All information must be complete before we can process a GVSU I-20.

Processing Time: Transfer In processing time varies based on many factors: verification of finances, release of record from previous school, etc. We will be in touch with any action steps needed from you.

Please note, the day your SEVIS record is transferred, your OPT/STEM authorization will automatically end.  

You can choose to transfer your record from your previous school to GVSU during the 60-day grace period after OPT ends.  




Please note that F-1 students traveling while between schools should ensure that their travel is:

  • Started and completed while their previous school still holds their SEVIS record and with the previous school's I-20
    -OR-
  • Started and completed after GVSU receives the SEVIS record and GVSU has issued a Transfer Pending I-20



If your F-1 visa stamp expires while you are outside the USA, please plan ahead to apply for a new visa stamp. You will need a valid visa stamp in order to re-enter the USA (unless a citizen of Canada who only needs an updated I-20).
