Annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration

Annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration

Date and Time

Monday, November 23, 2015 7:00 PM

Description

Details on this year's celebration:

This year's theme is Unity Through Diversity. We will have musical pieces, reflections and dances from various religious and secular traditions in our community. Our keynote will be Joe Jones, CEO/Director of the Grand Rapids Urban League, and he will speak on "Be Perfectly Yourself."

Before the service, starting at 6pm, there will be a labyrinth available in the upstairs of Trinity United Methodist for anyone interested. Additionally, after the service, there will be a special reception with foods from our various cultures and traditions, as an opportunity to continue to engage with one another and build relationships between our diverse interfaith community.

In the spirit interfaith service, donations will be accepted for three of our community partners: Congress Elementary, East Paris Food Pantry, and Lutheran Social Services. We encourage you to bring something from the lists below, or give a monetary donation in its place.

Parking: There is limited parking lot space available. We encourage street parking close by the church, and carpooling when possible.

Childcare available.

History:

The Grand Rapids Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration has been celebrated annually since the year 2000. The event features participation from a wide variety of Christian denominations and representatives of Native American, Jewish, Muslim, Baha'i, Buddhist, Hindu, secular, and inclusive religious communities. We come together to give thanks for the blessings we have received. Prayers, music, sacred writings, reflections and meditation will be woven together with a common theme of gratitude from many traditions.
