Our bodies are constantly receiving messages about how they should look, move, perform, and take up space. Even self-care and wellness can become another set of expectations about what we should be doing to be healthy, productive, or worthy. This interactive session invites participants to challenge those messages and explore a more inclusive approach to caring for ourselves and our bodies. Grounded in the principles of radical self-care, body autonomy, accessibility, and social justice, participants will examine how culture and systems of power shape our relationships with our bodies, movement, rest, and wellness. Together, we will consider what it means to move away from judgment, perfectionism, and one-size-fits-all approaches and toward curiosity, choice, compassion, and connection. Participants will also experience accessible movement, sensory grounding, and optional aromatherapy practices designed to accommodate a range of bodies, abilities, and comfort levels. No previous movement or yoga experience is needed, and participation is always by choice. Come prepared to reframe what self-care can be, reject harmful expectations, and reclaim movement and rest as practices of care, belonging, and liberation.
Learning Outcomes - Participants will be able to:
- Recognize how social and cultural messages about bodies, movement, health, rest, and productivity are shaped by systems of power and privilege.
- Reframe self-care through a social justice lens by exploring principles of bodily autonomy, accessibility, choice, and compassion.
- Practice accessible movement, sensory grounding, and embrace and honor diverse bodies, abilities, needs, and experiences.
