Brief Biography:

I grew up in Windsor, Ontario (Canada) and earned a BASc in Mechanical Engineering with a Materials option from the University of Windsor. I began working at DaimlerChrysler after completing my undergraduate degree but I was never far from a classroom. While working full-time, I completed an MBA from Lawrence Technological University by taking evening and weekend classes. I ultimately made the very difficult decision to give up my job to go back to school full-time. I completed a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at Michigan State University.

Having participated in a co-op program as an undergraduate student, I had gotten a Ph.D. so that I could teach at a university like GVSU. I wanted to work at a place that prepares students for the real world, with a balance of theory and hands-on practice.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children, ages 15 and 11. When we aren’t watching the kids play basketball, softball, or compete in track and field meets, we enjoy watching cooking and baking shows on TV and having friendly family cooking and baking competitions/challenges. Our dog participates by licking the plates clean afterwards.
