FOR THE MOST ACCURATE MOVE OUT INFORMATION, SELECT YOUR BUILDING/COMMUNITY

Extended Stay Requests

If you are NOT living on campus for the summer, and need to be in your unit after 5:00 p.m., Saturday, May 2, you MUST submit an extended stay form through the myHousing portal (available in April).

You may request an extended stay until 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Sunday, May 3, at an additional fee of $45. International residents and residents participating in graduation events will not be charged, but must still fill out the form.

If you need housing after Sunday, May 3, you must complete a Spring/Summer 2026 Housing Application. Contracts will be prorated for early departures, but are charged at a minimum of 3 weeks. Apply through Banner > myHousing > Apply | Cancel | Forms

You are NOT guaranteed permission to stay on campus. Housing and Residence Life reserves the right to grant or deny any Extended Stay Requests.

Transition to Summer On-Campus Housing

If you are living on campus for the summer, you will stay in your current housing assignment until notified that your summer unit is ready to move into. You do not need to complete an Extended Stay Request.

The moving period will run from Friday, May 1, through Sunday, May 10. The exact move date depends on when your Summer unit is ready.

You are expected to remain on/near campus with your stuff packed and ready to go. Once you are notified that your summer unit is ready, you will only have 48 hours to move. Failure to move within 48 hours will result in additional fees.

DAMAGES & CHARGES

Charges are used by the Office of Housing and Residence Life to reduce damage, protect residents, and stabilize housing costs.

Individual room/apartment damages will be assessed by full-time professional staff after check-out. It is the responsibility of the occupant(s) to pay for the replacement or repair of damaged property within a resident's room or in areas adjacent to it (i.e., windows, doors, and suite study areas).

These charges are billed directly to your student account. Fees/charges may be paid online or at the Registrar's windows (located in the Student Services Building in Allendale, or DeVos Building C in Grand Rapids).

Public area damage remaining after final check-out (or not assessed during the semester) will be divided and charged to each resident's account.

Please do not attempt to repair damaged/broken walls, fixtures, or furniture yourself. You will still be charged for damages or replacement.

LIST NOT EXHAUSTIVE. OTHER DAMAGES MAY BE ADDED AT THE DISCRETION OF HOUSING STAFF.
