Faculty, staff will repair students' belongings during free event
During the day-to-day busyness of classes and activities on campus, it is not uncommon for students to rip their clothes, misplace a few buttons, or break their eyeglasses, a zipper or a backpack strap. An upcoming Repair Clinic will offer students an opportunity to have all of the above scenarios and more mended by Grand Valley faculty and staff members. The free event will take place October 24 on the Allendale Campus.

Grand Valley professor inducted into prestigious public relations organization
The Public Relations Society of America recently inducted new members into its prestigious College of Fellows, one of which was a Grand Valley faculty member. Along with 10 other professionals, Tim Penning, professor of advertising and public relations, was inducted into the organization during a special ceremony on October 6 at the PRSA International Conference in Austin, Texas.

Since the spring, Jordan Juzwiak, a senior majoring in exercise science, has spent hours monitoring runners on a treadmill to determine if the shoes they are wearing improve their running economy.

Award-winning poets to discuss their work, inspirations during Fall Arts Celebration
Two unique poetic voices will share their work and discuss their inspirations with the West Michigan community during Fall Arts Celebration at Grand Valley State University. "An Evening of Poetry and Conversation with Ada Limón and Carl Phillips" will take place October 18 on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus. A reception and book signing will take place after both authors read samples from their work.

Students help Red Wings prepare for season through fitness tests during preseason camps
Forty-one Grand Valley exercise science and athletic training students helped 72 Detroit Red Wings players prepare for their new season during the team's preseason development camp in September. The students assisted Red Wings staff and Ross Sherman, associate professor of exercise science, conduct medical examinations and test the physical fitness of players.

GVSU receives $1 million grant to study impact of climate change on Arctic vegetation
A Grand Valley faculty member has been awarded a $1 million grant by the National Science Foundation to work with students to study the impact climate change has on vegetation in the Arctic tundra. The funding will support the next five years of research by Robert Hollister, professor of biology, and a team of five Grand Valley undergraduate and graduate students in northern Alaska.
