24th Summer Film explores struggles of a teenager growing up during the Great Depression
Wes is a shy, sensitive 12-year-old boy growing up poor during the Great Depression. Plagued by bullies, Wes' response to violence has always been to run away. But, when his family's well-being is at stake, Wes can't run anymore. This is the plot of the 24th annual Summer Film Project, "Down by the River," which wrapped production on July 22. Every year, the Summer Film Project provides students with the opportunity to work alongside industry professionals while producing films of varying lengths.

New Music Ensemble supports National Parks System through performances
The student members of Grand Valley's award-winning New Music Ensemble recently travelled 5,000 miles over the course of 17 days to perform at some of the most famous national parks in the U.S. For the tour, the ensemble commissioned five composers to write original compositions inspired by Voyageurs, Glacier, North Cascades, Olympic, and Mount Rainier national parks. Showcase highlights student research
Despite the devastating effects of Hurricane Maria on Puerto Rico, senior biology major Brendan Kosnik learned some of the island's trees and plants are very resilient.
