Alexis Hansen, a senior who is a double major in psychology and biomedical sciences, won a national history award  the Joan Nestle Award  for her research article focusing on a topography of transgender studies.

Virtual sustainability conference will connect Grand Rapids students with others around the world

Grand Rapids Public School students will connect virtually with other students around the world to present and discuss issues related to sustainability and climate change. The schools involved are part of the United Nations University network of Regional Centres of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development (RCEs). Grand Valley is a member of the Grand Rapids RCE, which includes other local universities and West Michigan businesses.

Faculty, staff will fix students' belongings during two free Repair Clinics

Two upcoming events will offer students free opportunities to have ripped clothes, missing buttons, broken zippers, torn backpack straps and more fixed and mended by Grand Valley faculty and staff members. Repair Clinics will take place February 19 on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus and February 27 on the Allendale Campus.

The book "First Around the World" contains more than essays by students describing their experiences while studying abroad. It gives insight into their fears, challenges and triumphs as the first people in their families to travel overseas.

New environmental and sustainability studies major offered in fall 2019

A new major at Grand Valley will help students learn to develop a solutions-oriented understanding of environmental and sustainability challenges. The environmental and sustainability studies major, which will be offered through the Brooks College of Interdisciplinary Studies beginning fall 2019, was approved by Grand Valley's Board of Trustees during its February meeting.
