Technology Summit to return to GVSU for a second year

Grand Valley will host its second Technology Summit on Nov. 3.

This campus-wide event, sponsored by Information Technology in collaboration with colleges and departments across the university, will take place in Kirkhof Center on the Valley Campus. The Summit celebrates the technological innovation of faculty, staff and students across the university.

“Bringing the Tech Summit back for a second year is a chance to celebrate the people shaping what’s next at Grand Valley and across our region,” said Miloš Topić, vice president for Information Technology and chief digital officer. “Technology can enable and empower us, but it’s the courage, creativity and leadership of people that turn possibilities into progress.”

This year’s keynote speaker is Imran Mazid, an associate professor in the School of Communications. Mazid’s research focuses on the strategic use of social media in public relations, particularly how storytelling and social presence can enhance audience engagement. In his session, titled “AI Anxiety to AI Agency,” he will explore the future of teaching with technology to help attendees build confidence in using AI across teaching, learning and everyday work.

This year’s Summit will feature a variety of presentations from faculty, staff, students and more in many different formats:

  • Information about the multiple morning and afternoon breakout sessions and poster presentations can be found on the Technology Summit website .
  • A high-performance computing panel moderated by Eric Bellmore from IT's Academic Research and Computing Team will focus on high-performance computing at GVSU and how it changes the ways we conduct research, learn and teach.
  • A Blue Dot Ecosystem Panel will feature various voices involved in GVSU’s Blue Dot Ecosystem and will discuss the history of Blue Dot, its current state and what the campus community can look forward to together.
  • Attendees can also tour the Digital Creator Lab and Atomic Object Technology Showcase, both housed in the Mary Idema Pew Library.
