GVSU women's basketball seeks title repeat in NCAA Division II Tournament

The Grand Valley women's basketball team punched its ticket to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight after winning another Midwest Regional title. The defending national champion Lakers are slated to face off against Carson-Newman University on March 24 in Pittsburgh’s UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.

The Lakers, who are enjoying a 33-1 season, won the GLIAC Tournament in an 83-62 victory over Ferris State to advance to the Midwest Regional Tournament. After victories against Maryville University and Wayne State University, the team finished with a 69-50 win against Northwood University in the regional title game.

Senior Paige VanStee won the regional's Most Outstanding Player Award, and senior Nicole Kamin received All-Tournament Team honors.

The Lakers' quest for a national championship repeat starts against a Carson-Newman team that won the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament and enters Tuesday's game with a 24-10 record on the season.

The Lakers tip off against Carson-Newman at 6 p.m. on March 24. The game can be watched on ESPN+ with a subscription, by tuning in to 106.1 FM/1340 AM on the radio or by following along on the GVSU Athletics website .
