Campus community invited to Faculty Awards Convocation

The annual Faculty Awards Convocation is scheduled for Tuesday, February 10, at 4 p.m. at the DeVos Center, Loosemore Auditorium.

University Awards for Excellence are presented, along with awards from the Center for Scholarly and Creative Excellence and Pew Faculty Teaching and Learning Center.

Provost Jennifer Drake will give welcome remarks and Adrienne Wallace, associate professor of advertising and public relations, will give the keynote address, "Building Sandcastles During a Hurricane: Strategic Hope in Higher Education." Wallace was named Michigan Distinguished Professor of the Year by the Michigan Association of State Universities in 2025. 

The campus community is invited to attend the event, which will be followed by a reception.

University Awards for Excellence:

  • Glenn A. Niemeyer Awards: Theresa Bacon-Baguley, professor of physician assistant studies; Shabbir Choudhuri, professor of engineering; David Leonard, professor of chemistry
  • Distinguished Contribution in a Discipline Award: Katherine Moran, associate professor of nursing
  • Outstanding University Service Award: Karyn Rabourn, associate professor of educational leadership and counseling
  • Outstanding Community Service Award: Kathleen Bailey, professor of criminology, criminal justice, and legal studies
  • Haas-Stiner Undergraduate Mentoring Award: Matthew Cooper, associate professor of biology
  • Outstanding Academic Advising and Student Services Award: Jennifer DeWaard, assistant professor of teaching and learning
  • Internationalization Award: Janel Pettes Guikema, professor of modern languages and literatures

Pew FTLC Awards:

  • Burch, Jacobs, and Moore Diversity Teaching Excellence Awards: Jay Knight, assistant professor of nursing; Megan Woller-Skar, professor of biology
  • Pew Teaching Excellence Award for Adjunct Faculty: Brandie Schmidt, adjunct faculty of nursing
  • Pew Teaching with Technology Award: Imran Mazid, associate professor of advertising and public relations
  • Pew Teaching Excellence Awards: Amanda Buday, associate professor of sociology; Brian Deyo, associate professor of English; Shirley Fleischmann, professor of engineering; Nicole Harpold, assistant professor of nursing; Dawn Rutecki, associate professor of interdisciplinary studies; Lindsay Stoetzel, assistant professor of literacy, educational foundations, and technology; Scott Thorgaard, associate professor of chemistry
  • Pew Excellence Award for Teaching and Learning Enrichment: Kellie Riley, assistant professor of nursing

  • Distinguished Graduate Mentoring Award: Tricia Thomas, professor of nursing
  • Distinguished Undergraduate Mentoring Awards: Andrew Lantz, professor of chemistry; Krista Benson, associate professor of interdisciplinary studies
  • Distinguished Early-Career Scholar Awards: Sara Sutton, assistant professor of computing; Ian Winkelstern, assistant professor of geology
