MSU police provide update on missing student

Police at Michigan State University announced January 21 they have recovered a body from the Red Cedar River believed to be Brendan Santo.

Santo, a first-year Grand Valley student from Rochester Hills, went missing in East Lansing on October 29.

President Philomena V. Mantella said in an email to the campus community that Grand Valley's role is to continue supporting Brendan's family, roommates, faculty members and friends.

"The death of any student in our community is painful and distressing," Mantella wrote. "Staff members from the Division of Student Affairs, including Housing and Residence Life and University Counseling, are available to support any student in need. Our thoughts and prayers continue for Brendan’s family and friends as they deal with this tragic loss."

The University Counseling Center has staff members ready to assist people who need support. If you or anyone you know is struggling, please reach out by submitting a care referral.
